Awake again

I have been complaining that there is no good music with positive, happy and even Christian content... Finally my constant winge was answered with Laurell. This amazing singer/songwriter geniesse (yes I did just make up a feminine form of genius... its a blog; I can do whatever I want!) who satisfied my longing for some real.good.music.

Watching her play and sing was like a wake up call for me to pick up music again. (eyeroll) My blessing and curse.

I know its shameful but I rarely actually buy cds. I have a reason: one of my computer science teachers told me that if I purchase a cd most of the money goes to the manufacturers and the record labels and virtually nothing goes to the actual artist themselves. Being like 12 at the time, I believed him wholeheartedly and decided that I would not be the one to further this injustice. I would boycot buying compact discs. NOW, I realize that selling albums is actually essential for an artist to become even remotely successful, so I buy albums that are FULL of GOOD music by up and coming artists. I'll download (ooooooooooooooooo) music that i've heard on the radio and give it a try but truthfully, I rarely keep something like that for more than a week or two if i don't REALLY like it. My point: I REALLY like Laurell enough to buy THREE of her albums in ONE SHOT!!! So, pat on the back girl, you are something else.

Shiny Red Wallet

So apparently guys love getting wallets as gifts, according to my research (which consists of blog surfing/googling "gifts guys love"). The most popular one I have found is a wallet. Funny, Reece bought ME this wonderful red wallet for Christmas... I guess we have our roles reversed when it comes to gift giving? Or maybe, just maybe, the internet may have steered me wrong.

In fact, when I looked at what the web was telling men world wide about what to give a woman they love, the answer wasn't surprising: FLOWERS!!!

Now, don't get me wrong; I love flowers. I really do because the cliche is true. Every woman loves flowers and I HATE that. I hate being a statistic and so, obviously, I told Reece when we started to see each other that I "don't actually like flowers". At the time I really didn't think of the consequences of this statement. Now, many a 'cliche' woman will enjoy blossoming roses and breathtaking lilies from their loves whilst I enjoy an empty vase.

I think now would be the right time to bang my head against a proverbial wall... oops.

Other guy safe gifts include books (subject appropriate... also they have to actually LIKE reading), scarves, lounge pants (pjs), and FOOD!!!!!!! I don't do the last one enough... maybe I can mail some bran muffins (they may/will most definitely go bad but hey, they're his favorite)

Then I start thinking about what I like:
walking. I love walking new places and seeing new things.
Visiting new coffee shops.
Good Soy Lattes.
chocolate covered strawberries.
red wine with dinner.... or chocolate if my tummy permits.
champagne in flutes.
live music.
those little white flowers that are a little like babys breath but bigger... you know what i mean?
roses
lilies
vintage/antique jewelry
hand written letters on thick, aged paper.
black and white photos.
instant photos.
sticky notes.
anything artistic, handmade, or one of a kind :)
RED THINGS!
road trips to special surprise places.
picnics with wine glasses. gotta have the wine glasses.
perrier (or s pellegrino)
chains with lockets and pendants!

I think that every guy/girl should sit their 'other' down (or just bring it up casually, probably a more comfortable situation!) and list things that they love! Mention places, foods, favors and gestures... you can never get to know each other too well!

I + South Africa!!!

Go watch Invictus! Its a fantastic film featuring the wonderful culture, land, and story of South Africa. This place is my second and soon to be first home!!!! Please please please Jesus let the nice people at immigrations let me in!!!

Morgan Freeman really did well as Mandela... top knotch! (Matt Damon didn't do too shabby at the Afrikaans accent either ;)

This is Us.

Here's the thing...

I just re-vamped my blog to make room for my 2010 posts. The BF left two weeks ago today (holy CRAP do I miss him!!!!!) I wore his scarf tonight and it made me feel better :) Also on the BF front, I haven't been posting because every moment is precious when you have just under two months per year to spend with the love of your life...Yeah. Pretty dang important those seconds. So, yes, the invisible audience who may or may not ever read my blog comes second to the man of my dreams!

It took a lot of wishing and waiting to get to this place but with a lot of hope, prayer and love this is us.
